New Silk Road 2018 international expedition

Based on the ancient Silk Road and a number of ideas that have been focussing on it, an incredible project has been created exciding far beyond an ordinary journey: a New Silk Road 2018 international expedition. The project was born out of Jacek Palkiewicz's passion for traveling and his youthful fascination of the historic Silk Road.

A combination of the Silk Road routes with interesting cultures of countries included in the expedition project, has allowed a creation of a huge event on international scale which joins elements of history, culture, international cooperation and tourism potential.

Silk Road: Exploration of remnants and influences & tourism potential of the future

We have many questions: How did the ancient Silk Road impacted cultures and coutries? What has remain of it? Does the Silk Road ideology has it's place in todays reality and how it can fit and influence the future? How one shared piece of history, one goal and one project can join different nations and support mutual cooperation, and in what degree? Will the Silk Road become a global, shared brand and future of tourism? How big actually is a tourism poential of the historic Silk Road? Does history, culture and their knowledge have any meaning and importance in todays sociaties?

Countries and route of the expedition project

Silk Road was a larg network of merchant routes which with time and under influence of many different elements like political situations, weather conditions or geagraphical location was constantly changing.

The expedition project route was selected taking into account historic and well known routes as well as routes less popular, going through / into central europe where the Silk Road was crossing paths with other historic merchant routes. Countries included in the expedition project were also carefully select due to their attractivenes, touris and historical trails and ties. There is also an interesting effect of influences of the Silk Road on cultures developement, which can be observed following for example old architecture in each country.

Poland in the expedition project

Poland has a great meaning in the expedition project. It was here that one of the largest amount of historic merchant routes were crossing with the Silk Road. Trails and achievments of Polish travelers traveling to Asia and China reach times even before famouse Marco Polo (Benedictus Polonus) and cenutries after him (Michal Boym).

Thanks to it's geographical location and mantioned historic trails Poland had become a main base for the expedition route as well as the country in which the expedition ends. Equal value had also Polish history, culture and tourist attractiveness.

Silk Road, an ispiration of the expedition project

Ancient Silk Road is a shared cultural heritage. The New Silk Road 2017/2018 expedition is based on "the great economic project" which was the legendary system of caravan trade routes, used between III b.c. and half of the XVII century of our era. It combined China with Constantinople and Europe and on its entire length, over 7000 km, it promoted cultural, economic and political exchange, becoming a kind of prelude to the modern system of global economy, shaping development of civilization.

"Thanks to the old Silk Road – says the creator and organizer of the New Silk Road 2017 expedition – great civilizations traded technological achievements and knowledge, met and mixed cultural influences. I believe that cultural heritage can be a foundation to building a broad cooperation. In today's global context, the ancient route may become a symbol of a high tourism, commercial and cultural potential of the entire region."
